This eye-catching set is so beautifully realised, you’ll want to display it even when it’s not in play.  Drawing inspiration from the legends of Greek Mythology, the highly intricate pieces have an almost sculptural feel. The imposing posture of ‘Poseidon of Melos’ as the King & the glorious ‘Athena Promachos’ as the Queen. A bronze Hellenistic statue has inspired the bishop, and the Knight is a part of the marble facade of Parthenon sculptured by Pheidias. The castle is a reproduction of one of the most admirable Attic Stele devoted to young Aristion. Finally, the Pawn is a bronze statue of a fully armed warrior in 500 B.C. All poised for a dramatic battle upon the handcrafted, expertly lacquered and finished, stylised chessboard.  Complemented by a dark stain wood veneer storage case, with a single gold tone, branded clasp.
